PCI Security Standards and Skimming Attacks

We all know that PCI DSS compliance is required, but we often put so much emphasis on compliance - passing the PCI compliance assessment - that we forget about the real reason behind PCI security standards: the criminals and hackers who are out there right now trying to steal your customers' information. And it seems that the number of those criminals is growing. A 2011 investigation by Verizon discovered that there were 761 data breaches in 2010, a 440% increase over 2009.
